3D Scanning & modeling / Foundry installation

Our team of engineers completed detailed scanning services of selected areas on a foundry installation. The 3D information was acquired with Leica RTC360 3D Laser Scanner. Leica RTC 360 is a high-speed 3D laser scanner with integrated HDR spherical imaging system and visual inertial system, which can measure a vast amount of data on a single second (up to 2*106 points per second), accompanied with the relevant positional standard deviation (±2.9mm at 20 m) enabled the detailed and accurate surveying and further modeling of the industry line.
Scanning procedures did not obstruct any parallel workshops and the industry line did not interrupt the regular working schedule.

All point clouds (totally 112 point clouds) were registered to a unified cloud and aligned to a common coordinate system. For registration purposes cloud and target constraints were used with final mean absolute error 1 mm and maximum error vector 4 mm. Despite the valid registration results, point clouds were visually checked for remaining errors. The quality inspection indicated results better than 4 mm.

The final unified cloud had over 600 million points. Besides the statistical registration results point clouds were also visually inspected through a redundant sample of slices.
After the point cloud registration, the aligned unified point cloud was used for the production of the 3D model of the infrastructure. The software that were used for modeling purposes were Leica Cyclone and Leica Cloudworx.
